getting dressed

This week's Bible theme at preschool was the story of Joseph from Genesis 37-50. (You can read it here.) Applying it to the children's own lives, we discussed feelings: especially happiness, sadness, fear and anger. We all have feelings--God does too--and there are good ways and not so good ways to express or deal with them.

The "my world" topic, in the context of Joseph's colorful coat was "clothing." We learned what kind of plants and animals clothing comes from, the differences in hot and cold weather clothing, and we encouraged the children to try their best to dress themselves using zippers, snaps, buttons, and shoelaces. We colored, cut out, and glued seasonally appropriate clothes onto paper dolls. The kids (even the boys) had a great time with it. If you want to do this with your child at home during the long weekend coming up, here is a link to the free printable images that we used.

Dance

Today Miss Lindsey taught a dance at the preschool. This video was taken after they finished practicing. We just left the music on and let the kids do their thing.

Summer School Week 3: Summer

The last week of summer school was about, um, summer. Beach. Sea animals. Boats. Polar regions and polar animals (because summer isn't hot everywhere). A picnic with watermelon and a tug-of-war. Hand-made ice cream. Friendships strengthened. Good-byes.

Summer School Week 2: Circus

After a week off for holidays, we came back with a circus theme. Elephants. Making peanut butter. Juggling. Tightropes. Stilts. Acrobatics. Clown faces and hair. Music. Big top tent (okay, a parachute). A magician. Lions. Jumping through flaming hoops. Again, very few photos, but enough to get a feel for the week.

Summer School Week 1: All About Me

We kicked off summer school with a week called "All About Me!" Activities included finger painting, making hand-stamp placemats, play dough, relay races, dances, building tall structures, making photo jigsaw puzzles, identifying kitchen smells, and lots of outdoor fun. Unfortunately, we didn't take many pictures but here are a few.
